A Wing and a Prayer

Today was a day I knew I'd meet some extra ordinary people because I had paid my $35 to have lunch with other like minds at this networking event for women in the Metro.  However,  I thought to myself, "there's going to be the same people there with the same sales pitch..yadayadayada.  They are just going to offer me the same conversation or sale me the same thing.  Just another event with realtors, lenders, and insurance agents."  Anyone else feel that they have this little negative person sitting on their shoulder trying to talk them out of doing something?  I began to think that the only real excitement for me was really the fact that I was going to support a local charity.  With every ticket purchased, donations of undergarments and make-up was going to be delivered to help woman all across the metro who were less fortunate to be be prepared in the professional world.  What better way than to bless others! Since I had previously signed up and had my ticket in hand, I was going to make the best of it.  There I stood at a new restaurant, 3Sixty in the old Founders Tower where I had been dying to try.  The panoramic views were supposed to be impeccable all the way from downtown OKC to Lake Hefner.

When I arrived, the normal people were there just as I had thought.  I wanted to make sure that if this was a place to be repeated a second time with my husband, I needed to scope it out first.
Their nightly menu - looks good, right?

After taking this photo,
I couldn't help imagine but, what it must look like at night from every angle.  However, as I begun to scope out the crowd I noticed two ladies that were in the same elevator on my way up just sitting at a table alone so I walked up to them and asked to join their table.  I think they were probably two of the sweetest women I met at first.  I was intrigued by their friendliness in the elevator earlier that I wanted to hear why they were there and what brought them to the event.  Hearing the stories of others always makes a day where you thought would be un"event"ful to something extra ordinary.  These women have been either in business for a while or knew the ropes.  Dr. Melena Keeth, DC was one of them.  One who had obviously been to several of these like events before.  She talked about being a chiropractor and enjoyed being in the community sponsoring breakfasts for other events such as these.  She was very friendly and I just knew that if for some reason I needed some wellness chiropractic care, she'd be someone I'd refer people.  I knew by going there they'd be in luck with shopping and lunch choices.  Her office is just down the street from Target and Stein Mart!!  I mean who doesn't like those stores?
Dr. Melena Keeth, DC and I - Isn't she precious?
Now this is where it gets even better...I came to this event because I wanted to support Suited for Success.  I wanted to make sure I could bless someone even if it was just make-up and under garments.  The other lady I chose to sit with was the founder and president of this charity.  I did not know this about her at the time and I thought maybe she was just there as an advocate.
Her name is Susan Walton.
She's an OKC Bombing survivor who, after she left the Bottomless Closet in Chicago she wanted to be sure other woman had opportunities to be Suited for Success.  This charity just celebrated its 20th birthday on August 1. She wanted to make an impact on others.  One story that stuck with me was the testimonial of a woman who was helped by this charity.  She was elated that Suited for Success had the right color of foundation for her face.  This particular woman had no money for make-up so she had been using flour.  Could you imagine using flour for make-up?  Every day items we have are taken for granted.  She wants to some day make this a mobile boutique as well.  Wouldn't that be really awesome?

I met two more extra ordinary women as well who just as inspiring.  Missy Ortegon who does make-up for a living.
Airbrush Cosmetics
MAKE-UP!!  I have no patience and no talent in that area.  She looked flawless and said it's sprayed on.  She could do anyone else's like that too!  It's called Luminess Airess.  Wow, she is my hero. Her moto is Elevate your Life.  My kind of girl. Come to find out she has family in the Panhandle of Oklahoma so we were able to talk about long drives through Oklahoma.  Anyone heard of Hooker Oklahoma, Home of the Horny Toads? That's a joke all the way home.

Yesenia Molina is an agency producer for Farmers Insurance.  She's not just an insurance agent but, she's one to help with language barriers and one who teaches English to those in need.   She not only helps with helping communicate but, she's willing to have other insurance agencies call her to translate.  That's putting other needs first instead of your own.  Even tough she's out there selling insurance to the community, she's also helping competitors communicate with their clients.

What a beautiful person!
- Great Gal, you'll love her!
Last but certainly not least, the key note speaker was a lady who started out as a single mom of 2 at the age 19, living on a $8500 income.  You see her whole speech was how her life early on was based on a wing and a prayer.  She went from everything being as far as the moon to a well deserved, well lived, well loved life.  It was like all the conversations that led up to this keynote speaker was supposed to happen at my table today.  I too was a single mom at the age of 19.  I also have thought some of the same things she spoke about, such as:  "I don't deserve these nice things."  "I'm not suited for this position."  "I'll never get a call back."  It's called Imposter Syndrome.  These thoughts keep you where you are.  I never really thought much about it on how it effects my life in general.  She helped put things back into perspective about how every one has a self worth and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.  Not that I've had problems with self esteem but, really about who I am as a person.  Personally and in business.  She is a real life coach who spoke to me today as I am sure to others.  If you haven't heard of her or you want to know what type of syndrome this is just google it as she says.  Start Here Coaching with Renae Cerquitella

These five ladies made my day special more than they'll ever know!

My $35 lunch was well worth it and more!  Food was yummy, company was great, and the people were outstanding.  I highly recommend, 3Sixty!

Wine and Chocolate

Christmas has came and gone but with the new year there's always a time for celebration.  A celebration with someone you love.  What a perfect way to enjoy a bottle of wine and your favorite kind of chocolate on Valentine's Day . These are some new wine bottle creations I made myself for some of my past clients and colleagues this past year in real estate for Christmas.  They were really easy to make. And can even be made for children's drinks as well using sparkling cider and fun sprinkles. Here's what you're going to need: Ribbon for the top to pull chocolate off with. A bottle of white or red wine.  Or sparkling cider/grape juice for the non-alcoholic drinkers.  You could probably even use a bottle of  Baileys and have chocolate and coffee! Tape string from top to bottom then wrap the Glad Press and Seal around from the stem. It was a learning experience so, it was hard melting the chocolate, taking pictures, and covering the bottle...

New and Fresh

It's been two years since I've put fingers to the keyboard and wrote about anything remotely OCD.  As most of my followers know, I used to be a middle class citizen who took saving money, reusing, and thrifting (is that even a word?) to a hobby level.  I even used to write a blog about some of my ventures.  This was something I enjoyed doing but blogspot.com is now blogger.com so I'm confused on how to keep my "Are you OCD" blogspot going since I've somehow lost my memory.  I guess the older you get, the more you have to put your pencil to a piece of paper and write everything down. Yes, it's true friends.  You really do start forgetting things! So, I'm on a quest to get this one running and keep it going with a bang!  In the meantime, look at some of my previous posts from years ago and watch how my mind changes from then to now.  Because, I'm well you know...OCD!  Enjoy. "Are you OCD?"  or  "Are you OCD?" 'Til then,...

Is your home fit to sell?

Viewing homes all the time gets my OCD boiling.  It's one part of my job I have a love/hate relationship with.  I love it because I get to see the look on people's faces when they walk through the door while viewing current homes for sale.  I usually know instantly if whether my clients may be calling it their new home or not.  Their body language and emotions are raging!  Knowing that I am part of that makes me giddy. However, the part that I hate is scrolling and/or physically looking through a home and my heart aches because I know it's not sold or will not sell at the current market value because of the shape its in or the color they chose.  My heart aches for that homeowner because A - they probably know that but, they don't have the skills or money to fix it or B - they may have another professional who never took the time to tell them they needed to change it.  Staging is huge with me so I can help you showcase what really matters to the eye a...
